Flies for the Mayans (Audible Audio Edition) Ian Fraser Books

God's having a bad day. The one-time Creator of the Universe is estranged from his son, riddled with guilt, and fighting battles on multiple fronts. His few remaining rules are being bypassed, his angels are turning up dead.
Unless he can find out who is gunning for him, the unthinkable might occur.
Flies for the Mayans is a dark comedy of post-Biblical proportions.
Flies for the Mayans (Audible Audio Edition) Ian Fraser Books
This was a short read but filled with constant upheaval the likes of which we see daily in world politics. I do not think there was any religion spared from a sucker punch to the gut. (But, in a thought provoking way.) The author does a great job with the writing style and it is very easy to read. The visual examples make it easy to picture the settings and events as the story unfolds. The idea of political factions and separatists sects coming from the likes of Gandi and Mother Teresa introduce an interesting twist as viewed from the personification of God. The humanization of God is easy to relate to as any person with life experience can recognize similar events taking place while understanding the emotions and thought process for decisions made.
This is not a good read for anyone who takes offense at religious ideology that challenges the accepted belief system. The thought provoking seeds grow into the greatest question of all... What If? The judgment of individuals upon entering the afterlife is eye opening when based on the facts presented. Those who we would assume get a 'free pass' into heaven for their role on earth are suddenly exposed for what results their deeds caused.

Flies for the Mayans (Audible Audio Edition) Ian Fraser Books Reviews
A very interesting novel. I’ve recommended it to all my FB friends.
The thought of s dope-smoking god just cracked me up.
I never imagined the ending, although it’s fitting and just.
Damn it!!! I loved this writer style! He is great!
English is not my 1st language, so I have some problems with some words he uses, I never used the kindle dictionary so much with any other book, but it really worth every minute reading it!
It is rather rare, amidst all the books meant to draw in readers by having as little meaning as possible, to find such a headstrong parable filled with hints and subtle nudges towards an over-riding philosophy as brutally harsh as in Flies for the Mayans. The story of God tiring of his work, of being overwhelmed by his own creation, of attempting to escape the pain he created, is certainly a powerful tale, even if I can't help but disagree with all it is attempting to say. Disagreement means nothing when faced with gut-wrenching questions and honest doubt, and can only be met with a friendly handshake and a stiff drink.
It is obvious Mr. Fraser has great talent, and the heaven he creates in so short of space is filled with metaphorical possibilities. Analogies are drawn quickly but with solid intent, and the thought behind them carries the novella beyond most books five times its size. The only shortfalls are the times when vulgarity and sex is used without such intentionality, leaving a few scenes feeling hollowly dirty, not bitingly satirical as is achieved throughout the majority of scenes. The ending is brilliantly written, and truly shows that Mr. Fraser both cares for and is intensely knowledgeable about that which he criticizes.
I will certainly be working through the rest of his works, and hope he can channel his sharp wit into even tighter pieces in the future.

Eliza's Fancy a faery romance (Part One)
I finished reading Flies for the Mayans a short while ago, and still the hidden layers and meanings are swirling in my head. It is not a book you finish and forget.
In this Satire, no religion or ethnicity is left safe or untouched by the author's pen. Nothing is sacrosanct and that is what I found so delightful about this book.
A word of caution If you are easily offended by religious satire, this book may not be for you. But if you enjoy this kind of satire, you are in for a ride.
After I finished this book, I stared at the computer screen with my mouth hanging open. The ending is powerful and it has stayed with me and taken me down numerous avenues of introspection. I hope it does the same for you. Well done!
God is human. Kinda. He's still God, but with all the foibles, angst and problems that us everyday schlubs have.
As soon as I finished the story, I went back to the beginning and read it all over again. The first time was to enjoy Ian Fraser's quirky story and the second time was to relish in his talent as a wordsmith.
It was a wonderful read and I look forward to reading his other books.
Ian Fraser has pulled off a serious coup in superb fictional writing with Flies For The Mayans.
Heaven may not be the place we think it is... and the author cleverly puts the afterlife into a most uncomfortable place, with terrorism, death and destruction being just as real for those who believe they have attained eternal life, as for those they left behind.
This is excellent work, well written, brilliantly envisioned and creatively thought through. Probably not the book for everyone, but for me, this was very enjoyable and deserves a read.
A god foolish enough to divide his kingdom in heaven is a god no longer worthy of praise. This book is outlandish. It takes some serious b***s to write satire like this. The length is short, but author Ian Fraser does a lot with the words he uses. He creates a god who's, well, I'll just say he's less than perfect. And the "big man" is faced with plenty of fires to put out. If the heaven depicted in this book is the real deal, then perhaps hell is not that bad an option. There are plenty of points in this story that will leave the reader saying "What?!" And I certainly didn't see the end coming. The ending is insane!
The main problem I have with the book is the formatting. It's a bit distracting. Whole paragraphs are indented. But hopefully, that will be fixed in a later version. If the reader has a tolerance for dark comedy on such a subject, then he or she will find this book to be very entertaining.
